I suggested this back in beta... a "sellable/unsellable" toggle on items. That way you would never be able to sell the item.
I lieu of this ability what I typically do is uncheck all bags except the backpack. All my personal weapons/rare items/greens go in the bags. The normal farming drops and stuff I will merchant goes in the backpack. That way I can just click through rapidly when I'm selling.

Well, if you click on sell, then you know the first item has been sold.
If you're lagging and trying to sell stuff, count the number of items before a gold/valuable item?
Its not that hard?
If you click on sell 4 times, you know that 4 items are gonna be sold, whether you're lagging or not.
You dont really have a case here.

Yes but the thing is, everytime it asks for confirmation, it's still gonna look like your still on that item with the high-ping when you hit OK/Yes as it still has to sell it...
So this won't do anything. Just delay the process of you 'accidently' selling the item.

The easiest method is to put something that cannot be sold at the front of your decent items.
Probably the 1 reason my necro still has a Beautiful Pearl. If i'm spamming 'sell' away it stops the moment i reach it because it simply can't be sold. The easiest solution imo.

this happend to me 2, they really should make it this way, that all green purple gold and special (like custimised and E.G. IDS) should have a sort of check that you will never will sell them in 1 go

I can empathize, but don't want an invasion the nag boxes (even for golds / purples -- I'd rather sell to the merch than spend hours trying to sell in L.A.).
Always lock your valuables behind a 0-value quest item, customized item or something else that you can't sell.

I sincerily feel with you. Sometimes when you lag, you tend to sell more than intended. I have that too, occasionally.
Why not a confirmation box that can be switched off, for all the people here who never make mistakes?

Yea having a confirmation button won't hurt, I can give you an example.
*Click sell on white shield*
"Are you sure you want to do that?"
*Click yes*
"Are you REALLY sure you want to do that?"
*Click yes*
"You REALLY REALLY sure?"
*CLICK YES*
"You sure?"
*Ragequit*

Another simple solution is to have a unsellable item such as candy canes or other things that have a zero value that can't be sold. It makes for a barrier /dividing line between the stuff you want to sell and the stuff you want to keep.
Not what you want exactly, but it has saved me from selling stuff I want to keep more than once.

What about Storage, Weapon slots, or click-off bag/belt?

comon, this is the person who could sell a hod sword to merchant, you can't expect him to pay attention on everything. You gotta figure a way to help him if you are Anet.

if you are in too big a hurry to look at what you are selling you deserve what happens.
1. disable selling except for backpack.
2. move anything you dont want to sell out of backpack.
3. click sell like a madman until your mouse asks for mercy
